Introduction

Hello and welcome to our website. As part of our computer science project, we have decided to create an   application   to improve awareness about the dangers of avalanches, and more specifically how to react to such a catastrophe in the case of off-piste skiing. The most important thing is to always have a working AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVER (or avalanche beacon) on you at all times. This greatly increases your chances of survival in an avalanche or the chances that you are able to save someone. The simulator shows you how to act in the case of an accident, and what to do to find a person buryed by the snow.

What is an Avalanche Transceiver?

An avalanche transceiver, or AVD (avalanche victim detecter) is a sort of radio beacon that transmits low frequency waves. The purpose of such a beacon is that in the case of an avalanche, even under a few metres of snow, people on the surface looking for you will pick up the signal of your beacon. Furthermore, in the reverse senario, you will be able to switch from transmitting to receiving mode, and hence will be able to save lives. Usually, on piste skiing is rather secure although accidents do happen. On the other hand, off-piste skiing can be rather dangerous and is much more likely to be victim to avalanches.

This is why you should always have an avalanche transciever on you, especially when you are off-piste. While enjoying the unique sensation of skiing off-piste, this little device could save your life. For more information, see  relative information .
